The challenge
Hormipresa is a major player in the industrialised concrete construction sector, standing out for the sustainability and innovation of its systems and products. One of the most sustainable innovations it has developed is the HybridWall industrialised mixed panel, made of white architectural concrete, rock wool insulation and CLT structural wood. The product was required to have an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for transparent and reliable communication of its environmental profile.
The solution
A cradle to grave life cycle assessment has been carried out, structuring the project in three stages:
1) Product life cycle modelling.
2) Collection of life cycle inventory data.
3) Elaboration of the life cycle analysis, interpretation of the results, and drafting of the documents.
4) Accompaniment during the verification phase of the EPD to ensure its conformity with the established standards.
Value contributed
Obtaining the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) offers very important commercial advantages, as its availability is a necessary condition for accessing a large number of public tenders and building projects with LEAD or BREEAM sustainability certification.
On the other hand, the life cycle analysis (LCA) study, the results of which are stated in the EPD, has made it possible to determine the distribution of environmental impacts throughout the product's life cycle and to incorporate the eco-design perspective into Hormipresa's innovation process.
