Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for multiple products and multiple plants for concrete precast units — Prefabricats Pujol

The challenge

Prefabricats Pujol, a leading company in the manufacture of precast concrete products, operates in an increasingly demanding environment in terms of sustainability in the fields of building and public works. The growing implementation of environmental criteria in public and private tenders, as well as the demand for verified information by designers, developers and construction companies, has made it essential to have reliable and comparable environmental data of the products.

The diversity of the catalogue of Prefabricats Pujol and the existence of several production plants they posed an additional challenge: communicating environmental performance in a coherent and representative way.

The solution

To meet this challenge, a project was developed Multi-product and multi-plant Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), which allows for a robust and transparent representation of the environmental impact of the company's main precast products.

The project resulted in the production of differentiated DAPs:

• A Multi-product and multi-plant EPD for precast reinforced concrete products.
• A Multi-product and multi-plant EPD for prestressed concrete precast elements.

Both DAP were developed in accordance with PCR UNE-EN 16757:2023, specific to precast concrete products, and were registered in the environmental product declaration programme DAPcons, ensuring its recognition and validity in the market.

The multi-product and multi-plant approach made it possible to integrate the different product typologies and production centres under a common methodological framework, ensuring the representativeness of the results and facilitating their use by the various stakeholders in the sector.
