The challenge
Breinco specialises in the manufacture of outdoor paving, retaining walls, urbanisation and architecture with its own hallmark of innovation and sustainability. It also designs and manufactures street furniture solutions, urban equipment and architectural concrete. In order to know in detail the contribution to global warming of its activity, it decided to evaluate the carbon footprint of the entire value chain, from the extraction of raw materials to the end-of-life management of the products it places on the market.
The solution
The measurement of the organisation's carbon footprint has been carried out according to the guidelines of ISO 14064-1:2018, in a project structured in seven phases:
- Defining the scope and objective of the study
- Activity data collection (upstream, core and downstream)
- Selection of emission factors
- Environmental impact assessment (carbon footprint)
- Greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting.
- Establishment of science-based reduction targets (SBT).
- Drafting a set of proposals for mitigating emissions and achieving reduction targets.
Value contributed
Having an accurate measurement of the carbon footprint and a set of mitigation proposals is the first step towards taking concrete measures to reduce emissions. The company is now in a position to explain its climate change policy to stakeholders.
